The Ramps are built through the campus where uneven floor levels or curbs are present to provide convenience and prevent tripping accidents. Ramps are helpful for pushing a pallet truck, trolley, or wheelchair over a curb or step by negotiating just a few inches of height difference. Utility ramps solve the problem and make wheeled movement between uneven levels very easy. The following ramps were built on university campuses for the continence and safety of disabled persons (Divyangjan) shown in the figure.
The university authorities are sensitive toward differently-abled students. Therefore, we at the university campus provide a lift facility and help these students minimize their difficulties and making them comfortable on the campus. The lift facility for divyangan’s has been shown in figure.
Separate disabled-friendly washrooms are available on the campus with schedule maintenance,3 cleanliness, and hygiene. The figure shows the disabled-friendly washroom.
Educational institutions need to comply with the safety laws and rules and they need to place safety signs as per the defined guidelines. These signs ensure the safety of the students in case of any emergencies. Directional signage, safety signage, branding, and vision-mission signage need to be installed throughout the campus.
SCREEN READER: Screen reader is an assistive software programme which helps the visually impaired or the blind to work with computer. The Non Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) is free; open-source software. It is installed in the computers at Computer Lab to help the visually challenged students in learning.
CLAROREAD: Claro Read is another free software which we have in our Central library and when needed we get it downloaded in specific department so it helps students to be more confident, independent and productive learners by providing an effective suite of reading, writing and study tools. The main features include Text to speech, Spell checker, Listening later, Scanning (OCR), Dictation, Dictionary, Screen capture.
SPEECHIFY: Spechify is a very helpful software to read aloud any Google Doc, PDF, webpage, or book with text to speech (TTS). Natural sounding voices in 30+ languages & 130 voices. Text to speech from Speechify lets you listen to docs, articles, PDFs, email, and other formats — anything you read. It’s one of the fastest growing voice generators.
Roger Voice: This software helps in live transcription of telephone conversations in more than 100 languages as well as the possibility of answering by voice synthesis. People who are deaf and those who have hearing loss, or someone who has difficulty speaking can use the phone to have a conversation
The institution provides various forms of assistance for inquiries and information, including human aid, readers, scribes, soft copies of reading material, and screen reading software. These provisions ensure accessibility for all individuals, accommodating diverse needs and fostering inclusive learning environments.
